A 69-year-old bicyclist in Edgewater, Illinois, was punched in the head by one man, then run over by another in a dispute over littering, police said.

On Friday, the senior bicyclist noticed that a man driving an Audi dropped a fast-food bag out of his window while stopped at a busy intersection, police said. Once the bicyclist caught up with the man, he put the bag back on the hood of his car. After that, not only did the man in the Audi get out of his car and punch him, but another man in a Jeep tried to move around the bicyclist and ended up running him over, police said.

According to Edgewater police, the bicyclist was rushed to Illinois Masonic Hospital where he gave authorities his account of the incident. According to WBBM-TV, although the man’s helmet was crushed, the safety mechanism is being credited with saving his life.

Recently, there have been a string of bizarre mishaps regarding fast food and U.S. citizens.

In September, a viral video showed an ex-McDonald’s employee, upset by how a customer was treating him, pouring sweet and sour sauce over their caramel frappe.

The video, which was posted on TikTok, received over 75 million views and inspired a number of comments from users who were disgusted by the employee’s actions.

“Can’t you be cited or arrested by PD for that? What if they were allergic to sweet and sour and they died,” said one user. “I will legit fight you if you serve me that,” another TikToker said.

The McDonald’s worker ended up being fired by the corporation, which he also posted on his TikTok page.

Newsweek has reached out to Edgewater police for further comment.
