The best fitness watches to track your workouts

    OS: Fitbit OS | Works with: iOS and Android | Battery life: 6 days+ | Water resistance: Up to 50m | Wi-Fi: Yes | 4G/LTE: No | Bluetooth: Yes | NFC: Yes | GPS: Yes | Heart rate: Yes | Size(s): 40mm

While the Versa 3 (£199) might not be the most feature-packed member of Fitbit’s watch family, it’s the one that hits the sweet spot for a lot of people. Specifically, anyone that’s starting to think more about getting fitter but might be daunted by the prospect of picking up something more hardcore like a Garmin.

With Fitbit’s smartwatch you’re getting something that keeps the design simple, gives you room to quickly add bands to it and puts the emphasis on using the touchscreen display to navigate the software.

When you do get around to doing some exercise, you’ll find you can track activities like runs and pool swims and the Versa 3 will do an OK job of tracking those things. Just not to the level of accuracy that other watches on this list are capable of. What is neat is the ability to glance at metrics such as step counts, reliable 24/7 heart rate data and the option to make use of stress-busting features like guided breathing exercises.

The watch is just part of the story. Head over to the Fitbit companion app, and you’ll be able to dig into some of the most accurate sleep monitoring data you’ll find on a fitness watch, and find more mindfulness features to keep calm. The only problem is that more of these useful features and insights are beginning to be locked behind Fitbit’s Premium service.

Fitbit does a good job of integrating smartwatch features and making them more fitness-centric, like the ability to use the Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to check your progress towards hitting target daily goals. Then you have the kind of battery life Apple Watch owners could only dream of (i.e six days or more) with a pretty impressive fast-charging feature to add on top too.

The Versa 3 isn’t the complete and perfect fitness watch, but if you’re at the beginning of your fitness journey, there’s few better watches to kick you off.

Pros: Easy to use; great for sleep tracking; useful mindfulness features

Cons: Iffy sports tracking; Fitbit Premium needed for full experience
