
Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Janet Protasiewicz, who was backed by leftists, won a Wisconsin Supreme Court contest on Tuesday.
The Wisconsin Democratic Party shelled out more than $8 million to her campaign, according to the Associated Press.
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin endorsed Protasiewicz for the state Supreme Court slot.
Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder both supported Protasiewicz.
According to NBC News, the election outcome will shift the court’s current 4-3 conservative leaning majority to a liberal majority.
Protasiewicz defeated former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly, who had been backed by pro-life groups. Kelly was appointed to serve on the state Supreme Court by then-Gov. Scott Walker (R) in 2016, but Kelly lost an election in 2020.
Justicedanielkelly.com describes the man as a “judicial conservative who will apply the law as it is written, rather than legislate from the bench.”
