Fans Think Taylor Swift Just Channeled Princess Diana’s ‘Revenge Dress’

“And I was never good at telling jokes, but the punchline goes, ‘I’ll get older, but your lovers stay my age.’” Damn. Taylor Swift really didn’t pull any punches in the 10-minute version of “All Too Well” that was released on Red (Taylor’s Version). And fans believe she kept that same energy during her appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers.

On November 11, mere hours ahead of the rerecorded album’s release, Swift appeared on Late Night to discuss her latest project, her collab with Phoebe Bridgers, and her upcoming performance on Saturday Night Live. But it wasn’t just Swift’s interview that got fans talking—it was also her dress.

The singer wore a black off-the-shoulder David Koma minidress that instantly gave fans Princess Diana Revenge Dress vibes. You see, back in 1994, Princess Diana made headlines while wearing a black silk Christina Stambolian dress with a similar neckline to a Vanity Fair party on the same night Prince Charles admitted to his infidelity during a public television broadcast. The dress, which she paired with a pearl choker fashioned with a large oval sapphire brooch once belonging to Queen Mary, has become known as Lady Di’s Revenge Dress.

“The Revenge Dress (Taylor’s Version),” one fan tweeted with a comparison photo of Swift and Diana. Another wrote, “Not @taylorswift13 wearing the REvENgE dress??? 💀💀💀💀”

But why would Taylor Swift be seeking revenge? Well, fans are probably suggesting that Swift’s sartorial choice was another jab at actor Jake Gyllenhaal, the alleged ex-boyfriend that inspired “All Too Well.” The pair dated back in 2010 when Swift was 19 years old and Gyllenhaal was 28. There’s also Scooter Braun, whose feud with Swift inspired her choice to rerecord her first six albums (after he took ownership of her masters and then sold them to an investment firm).

Sure, this could be a reach, but as Taylor Swift once told us, “There’s nothing I do better than revenge.”
