Billy Eichner’s Gay Rom-Com Bros Is Done Filming — Here’s What We Know
Call this movie safe sex, because filming on Billy Eichner’s gay rom-com Bros has officially wrapped!
Bros, which is set to be the first gay romantic comedy from a major studio (Universal), has been one of the most buzzed-about projects in Hollywood since it was first announced, and now, it’s finished filming. Eichner broke the exciting news on his social media.
“And that’s a wrap on BROS!!! It’s too soon to say much more but this was a very meaningful experience for me,” Eichner tweeted. “So for now I just want to say THANK YOU to a crew that worked insanely hard and a warm, hilarious, historic cast that cared so much. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
Eichner also posted a picture of himself and his love interest in the movie, Luke Macfarlane, on Instagram. There he said, “THANK YOU to a very hard working crew and production team and a truly wonderful, warm, hilarious, historic cast. Everyone worked so hard and cared so much about the movie. It means the world to me. I am very lucky and very grateful. This movie is a long time coming. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. I hope it’s worth the wait. I think it will be.”
Bros first made headlines when it was announced earlier this year as Eichner would be the first out gay man to write and star in what is being credited as the first major gay rom-com from a major studio in film history. Since then, Bros has only gotten gayer, bringing in an all-LGBTQ+ principle cast. (Even the non-queer roles are being played by LGBTQ+ characters!)
Now that the film, which “centers on two gay men with commitment issues who attempt a relationship,” has wrapped filming, we can officially begin the countdown until we can see it in all of its gay glory in theaters!
Starring opposite Eichner will be Brothers & Sisters alum Luke Macfarlane, who will play his romantic partner. Other cast members include groundbreaking lesbian actress Amanda Bearse, Broadway legend Harvey Fierstein, our favorite Saturday Night Live cast member Bowen Yang, the legendary Ts Madison, Drag Race season 13 winner and Out100 cover start Symone, Miss Lawrence, Guillermo Diaz, and Guy Branam.
Bros, which is directed by Nicholas Stoller and produced by Judd Apatow, is scheduled to hit theaters on August 22, 2022!
