37 Percent of Unvaccinated Workers Will Leave Job if Required to Get COVID Vaccine: Poll

More than 30 percent of unvaccinated workers said that they will leave their job if required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, according to a new poll.

The poll, which was conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) found that 37 percent of workers that are currently unvaccinated against the novel coronavirus said they’d quit their job if their employer required them to get a COVID-19 vaccine or undergo weekly testing.

According to the poll, 46 percent said they’d rather undergo weekly COVID-19 testing than receive the vaccine and just 11 percent said they’d get inoculated against the novel virus if their job required it.

The poll also asked respondents what their response would be if their job required them to get a vaccine but did not offer the option to undergo weekly testing instead. The poll found that when asked this question, 72 percent of respondents said they’d quit their job while 17 percent said they’d receive the vaccine.

In September, President Joe Biden announced a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for businesses with over 100 employees. If the employees chose against receiving a COVID-19 vaccine they have the option to undergo weekly testing.

Some states and cities have implemented their own COVID-19 vaccine mandates for workers. Washington Governor Jay Inslee previously implemented one of the nation’s strictest COVID-19 vaccine mandates, as it does not allow for the option to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing instead of receiving the vaccine.

October 19 was the deadline for Washington’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate and shortly after the Washington State Patrol announced that 127 employees “separated from employment due to the mandate.”

While there have been numerous reports of employees leaving their jobs over vaccine mandates, the KFF poll found that only 5 percent of unvaccinated workers have left their jobs over a COVID-19 vaccine requirement. According to the poll, this accounts for only 1 percent of all adults nationwide.

The poll also found that only 25 percent of respondents said that their employer requires a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the poll, 21 percent of respondents said that they want their employer to mandate a COVID-19 vaccine while 51 percent disagreed.

The KFF poll surveyed 1,519 U.S. adults from October 14 to October 24 and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at least 66 percent of Americans eligible to receive a vaccine have received at least one dose while 57.5 percent are considered fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.
