No Hand Outs

The Majority of the people that attended this meeting (regarding northside property buyouts) were Slum-Lords that rent out depleted properties for a profit . These Slum-Lords had the sense to move out years ago to the south side of town .Some have had these properties for over 25 years in the hope of a neighborhood buy-out .They all know who they are I am at all of these meetings in the front row .
And yes the tests that were done will more than likely find possible health contamination . What most people do not know is that I directed the staff to conduct the tests to our Senior Citizens living in the neighborhood over twenty years or more .Most of the population of residents that reside in the area are renters .With a very low home ownership percentage .My thinking on this was long time exposure would be more than likely to be found in an older person living in the area 20 or more years as opposed to a renter in their thirties living in the area for 5 years .We the older generation have lived here for more than 30 to 60 years in some cases .We can not afford to move to a 125,000.00 thousand dollar home the cities average home price .The selling price for a buy out is around 50,000.00 dollars plus 5 thousand for home removal ,Where are these folks going to get the other 70,000.00 thousand .You guessed right ! The tax payer ! We are not looking to move ,We are looking to live out are final days where we paid our taxes for 30-60 years .We are poor people , But by the same token we are proud people not looking for a handout .
